Qualifications

CERTIFICATION & LICENSE:

1. Certification as a Basic Firefighter or higher by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection

2. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician -Basic or higher from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

3. Must poses a valid Texas Driver’s License and obtain a Class B License within 6 months of employment.

4. Must live within 150 statute miles from district boundary throughout employment.

5. All above listed certifications and licenses are required to be maintained.

Firefighter/EMT Physical Ability Testing: DPS Row Test

As part of the Firefighter/EMT hiring process, candidates complete the DPS Row Test. FSFD provides a detailed walkthrough video so you know exactly what to expect before test day.

This video covers:

  • How the row station is set up
  • Proper Firefighter/EMT positioning (feet, hands, body)
  • Correct starting position
  • Visual examples to eliminate guesswork
